Just posted on the Living Right Now Blog about having a proper and positive attitude to dieting where you mindfully eat what you want and control your diet by doing just that- eating what you want.Sometimes quite a lot of it.Now I'm not a huge chocks fan but I am a BIG fan of anything that works and there's lots of evidence that the approach of the Beyond Chocolate gals works. I read their book, Beyond Chocolate this weekend in part because I want to understand how they work.Also, we are looking for a publishing agent for our upcoming book aimed at professional women (out in April) and I wanted to see what the book quality was like.It's good.I recommend it.
They use a ten step approach and when I read it it got me thinking ....
Thinking about learning and about forming helpful new habits.I'm a big fan of strengths based learning and Generally feel that it's nigh on impossible to train someone to learn something they are resistant to. So I started thinking about learners like those on diets (or not) . The reluctant learner as someone taking a restricted approach to learning (the I don't want to/need to/,,,and I am being made to/have to/must do) and the positive learner as someone who is keen and wants to learn and change (the I want to/could/would like to know...and I am wanting to know/see/experience).
If you take the principles in the book they can be adapted from dieting (or looking after your weight) to successful learning more generally as follows;
Tune in to Learning
Learn when you are hungry
Learn whatever you want
Lay it out, sit down and focus on just learning
Stop when you are satisfied
Enjoy it
Own your own learning
Move and take action to consolidate your learning
Support yourself to learn in whatever way you choose
Be your own guru of learning
So what do you want to tune into and learn in the coming months? Tune in and get hungry for it -whatever it is. Feast on it and enjoy every morsel!
I myself shall be learning at the altar of a health spa for a few days of me time.Learning about self-care.
