Well, I recently returned from a week of emergency recuperation and restoration in Cyprus.Have you ever had that feeling of just needing to get away to another shore and gather your resources?
Various events and extreme tiredness were joined by a postponed piece of work a couple of weeks ago which enabled me to re-jig things and take a week- Thank you universe.
As I consider myself a traveller rather than a tourist, taking a package week at a 4 star hotel where I did not really need to venture very far, which had a choice of restaurants so no big decisions about food, and where everything is accessible and easy, is unusual for me. However,it provided just what I ordered. There was an indoor and outdoor pool so I could swim everyday,a view of the sea,a tranquil location with a nice walk for an hour going east or west, a gym on site (so no excuses for not exercising every day) and a spa for all that self care pampering.Isn't it funny how when you really want something, you put your order into the universe and it delivers? It delivered right down to the fact that I wanted t read lots ,listen to the ipod and to be honest,be a little unsociable for a week. The body is relaxed, the brain muscle is exercised in many directions and I've eaten lovely, fresh, healthy food without having to cook it or fill the dishwasher afterwards.reminds me ofwhat I know- all we have to do is ASK, put it out there and wait.
No matter how awful things get I manage to retain my sense of northern humour so i couldn't resist the people watching and the ocassional "over- hearing" of a conversation. I kid you not that I heard 2 women discussing swimsuits and sun tan lotion for 3 hours- The best line was when one of them said- " I don't go for all these scare tactics about the sun- look at me. I have been sun bathing every year for at least 4 weeks a year for the last 20 years, I use factor 6 and I don't have skin cancer " ( Her skin was like a rhinocerous and she looked about 70 and I think she was in her 50s") Then there was the 2 hour discussion about feta cheese and Haloumi ( I know it was 2 hours only because I was by the pool and drifted off into the land of ZZZ 15 minutes into the conversation and awoke an hour later and lay there until I could stand it no longer and had to move to another spot).
Also, next time you are in a hotel which has winter clientele of the nearly or definately geriatric variety, just take a look at the guestbook. The comments are hilarious and reflect a time gone by that even I can find myself hankering after. The guest book had the following comments...
"The ballroom and sequence dancing was far more sequence than ballroom with only a single foxtrot in the whole 2 hours- bring back Margaret and Desmond"
"The food, as in every year, was exceptional. Please can management enforce the rules pertaining to men's attire-No shortsleeves at dinner and in particular no vests and tatoos at breakfast please. A collar for men at dinner needs to be reinforced"
"The staff are friendly and always willing. However,I did see a member of Eastern European staff chewing gum whilst cleaning the corridor on the 3rd floor which lowers the tone somewhat"
Clearly the last bastion of the English are alive and kicking in Paphos.God love them.
So- If you haven't got that next holiday booked- Think self care and book it soon.
Happy Spring everyone!
